NEWS - Denver Lodge #17 Announces new Scholarship
with DPS Partnership and North Alumni Association
In recent years the Denver Elks Lodge #17 has experienced more than a few big moments. Record membership, the renovation of our beloved Lodge, the beer garden and the golf simulator, new avenues for revenue and community involvement, the acknowledgement and focus on a more welcoming and inclusive culture. All of this has been initiated, designed and implemented by caring, active Elks.
Today we have another milestone in the official beginning of our own Denver #17 Scholarship program. Recently the Grants and Scholarship committee with assistance from our Lodge Accountant and Secretary were able to partner with Denver North High School and DPS to develop and implement the Denver Elks Lodge #17 Scholarship. The first check, for $2017.00, was handed over to Joe Derose with the Denver North Alumni Association. The scholarship will be available to all senior students at Denver North High School this coming spring and will support those with interest and passion for service and support in the community.
While this is exciting, the membership at Denver #17 understands that other schools in our growing community should and will be included in years to come. With added commitment and understanding of scholarship award development our Lodge plans on expanding this program to other DPS and Jeffco High Schools. If you would like to see a school near you benefit from our Lodge, please contact the Grants and Scholarship Committee at Denver #17.
The North Side High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation (NSHASF) is providing 44 scholarships ranging in value from $2,000 to $8,000. These scholarships award students’ talents and efforts in areas such as music, art, theater, sports, academics, STEM, ROTC, paid employment, true grit, and overcoming obstacles. In 2021, the committee awarded $93,023 in scholarships to various North High students. This year, they are giving away $98,364. But don’t wait—the deadline to apply is March 25, 2022 throught the Alumni Center at North High School.
ENF Legacy Awards
Next Awarded for 2023
Look for application link fall of 2022
Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships available to children and grandchildren of Elks members. Eligibility requirements are outlined below.
The student must complete and submit the ONLINE application. The 2021 Legacy Awards application deadline is February 7, 2022.
The Elk sponsor’s membership will be verified through the BPOE Grand Lodge headquarters.
When a student registers to complete the online application, both the applicant and Lodge Secretary will be notified by email.
If you have questions about your online Legacy Awards application, contact the ENF Scholarship Office via email at email@example.com. Visit our Legacy Awards FAQ page.
Upon receipt of the application, the applicant will receive a notification that the application was received. Winners will be announced in late April 2022.
Note: Because the contest begins in one Lodge year and the winners are announced in the next, a Legacy Award could go to the child or grandchild of a lapsed member. An applicant’s Elk parent or grandparent must be a paid-up member in good standing at the time of application, but if the Elk chooses not to renew membership, that decision will not affect the outcome of the Legacy Awards contest.
Eligibility for Legacy
For the 2022 contest, any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order and attended initiation ritual on or before April 1, 2019, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2019, is eligible to apply.
The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2022.
Great-grandchildren are not eligible.
The applicant must be a high school senior.
The applicant must apply online only. The 2022 Legacy Awards application deadline is February 7, 2022.
If the applicant’s parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent’s Elks Lodge.
We have waived the standardized test requirement for the 2022 Legacy contest. You do not need to submit ACT and/or SAT scores.
Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student wins more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value. Students can accept local and state scholarships, which are separate from the awards at the national level.
Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. (Note: Applicants from Guam, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)
If you are selected as a 2022 Legacy Awards recipient, you will be required to perform service once a year with an Elks Lodge during the four years you are receiving the scholarship. Click here for more information about serving with the Elks
